This is the time of year where we bundle up and fight the cool weather to prune back the old wood. On days like today its pleasant to be outside with the sun shinning, and nothing but still silence.  All our vineyards are generally cane pruned, which means leaving two healthy canes, (along with a few spured at the head) to generate next years growth. These canes are very important as it sets the vine up for the next two years. From there the vine would then be tied down to the fruiting wire, thus allowing the new wood buds to break in the spring.  Its important, to leave extra canes at pruning to prevent any frost damage, or breakage in the spring when it comes time to tie andto have  reassurance there will be no loss.  Pruning is done by our outgoing, fun loving vineyard connoisseur Brendon Shannon.  He can be heard from miles around whistling all day!</p>
